Introduction & Ground Rules

Setting the scene and creating a safe space

10 minutes

Welcome to SAVE Training

This session is about equipping you with the skills to Spot, Ask, Validate, and Engage with colleagues who might be struggling. We're here to learn how to support each other in a peer-to-peer capacity. This training is designed for all ambulance staff โ€” from paramedics and EMTs to EOC teams and call handlers.

Ground Rules

Before we begin, let's establish some ground rules to ensure psychological safety. This training covers sensitive topics, and your well-being is our priority.

๐Ÿšช
Step out any time
You can leave at any point without needing to explain yourself.
๐Ÿ”’
Confidentiality
What's shared here stays here, fostering trust and open discussion.
๐Ÿ’ฌ
Direct language
We'll use the word 'suicide' directly โ€” research shows this is crucial and does not increase risk.
๐Ÿ“ž
Immediate support
If you need support right now, TASC is available on 0800 157 7677.
"Asking directly about suicide does not plant the idea โ€” it opens the door for a life-saving conversation."

Knowledge Check

Test your understanding before moving on

Does asking someone directly about suicide increase the risk that they will act on suicidal thoughts?
